Did Van Persie tell Wenger which players to sign?

The Metro is today reporting that prior to his departure, Robin Van Persie instructed Arsene Wenger with which players he should sign for Arsenal.

In a meeting to discuss his future, it is being suggested than Van Persie pinpointed some high-quality players that should be pursued and also made it clear he would prefer an assistant manager from outside the club.

An source said: “There were very heated discussions. Van Persie told Wenger which players to sign and who he should appoint as his number two.”

“He wanted an external coach from outside of the club to replace  Pat Rice and didn’t want Steve Bould to get promoted because he felt the current staff were all ‘yes’ men and too comfortable in the job.”

As is clear now, Wenger didn’t take too kindly to these words and shortly afterwards, Van Persie made it clear that he would like to leave the club.

He has since joined Manchester United and has been banging in the goals for his new club. Arsenal meanwhile have had an inconsistent start to the campaign.

The 29-year-old could have very easily been playing for Manchester City though. According to the Daily Mail, he turned down £300,000 a week in favour of a move to Old Trafford.

Van Persie will face his former club for the first time this weekend as Manchester United host Arsenal on Saturday lunch-time.
