Dortmund close in on Sokratis

German daily Bild is reporting that Borussia Dortmund are set to sign Werder Bremen defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos.

The Millionaires look set to stay without Felipe Santana in the summer and they are eager to sign another high-profile central defender.

Borussia Dortmund officials have been looking at a number of players, but they seem to have opted for Werder’s Sokratis Papastathopoulos.

Bayer Leverkusen were believed to be leading the chase for the Greek defender, but Bild claims that Borussia have since moved to the front of the queue.

The player himself has already agreed a deal until June 2016 with the Millionaires, while Dortmund have offered €9 million for his services.

Werder will probably attempt to earn few million more, but it is believed the two clubs will eventually reach an agreement.

Sokratis Papastathopoulos, 24, has made a total of 59 Bundesliga appearances for Werder since joining the club from Genoa. He has also featured for AEK Athens, Niki Volos and AC Milan.
