Dortmund confirm Lewandowski stay

Borussia Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke has insisted that Robert Lewandowski will not be leaving the club in the off-season.

The Poland striker has impressed with his displays for the Westfalenstadion outfit, helping them to two Bundesliga titles in the last three seasons and the UEFA Champions League final last campaign.

Lewandowski has been linked with a number of clubs including Manchester United and Bayern Munich, who beat Dortmund in last month’s Champions League final at Wembley.
However, Watzke, who had previously stressed that the 24-year-old would not be joining Bayern, has now moved to ward off all potential suitors by stating that Lewandowski will remain with Dortmund in 2013-14.
“Robert will definitely play for Borussia Dortmund next season,” he told Suddeutsche Zeitung. “We need planning certainty.”
Bayern have already tied up a deal to bring Dortmund playmaker Mario Goetze to the club, and there had been reports that Lewandowski’s transfer to the Allianz Arena had already been agreed.
Watzke, though, was quick to refute those suggestions.
“There is no such promise,” he added. “There is no verbal agreement and no written agreement … this is a lie.”
Lewandowski joined Dortmund from Polish side Lech Poznan in 2010. He has made 139 appearances for Juergen Klopp’s side, scoring 75 goals.
