With Manchester United and Barcelona failing to step up their interest in Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels, the World Cup winning centre-back looks set to stay in Germany.
Under new manager Louis van Gaal, Hummels was a number one target to marshal the Red Devils’ defence, but they haven’t made any form of official bid for the talented player, and neither have Barcelona this summer.
Ladbrokes are giving odds of 1/10 for Hummels to stay with Borussia Dortmund as a result, but it will be a big loss for United. Their lack of experience in the defence is evident, with their average age across the backline being just 23. The arrival of a player like the German centre-back would see United having experience and a true leader to get the club back up the league table.
Dortmund won’t be too sad to see interest fade in their top defender, as their quest for a Bundesliga title would be near impossible without Hummels at the heart of the defence.
