Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels believes his side have a great chance of progressing past the group stage of this season’s Champions League.

When the competition begins on September 13, the German champions could be facing some of Europe’s heavyweights, a prospect which excites the Dortmund defender.

“We hope to have a great group where we are challenged but still have a chance to go through,” he said.

Thinking ahead to his dream draw, Hummels insists he will not be scared of facing Europe’s top sides.

“I’ve read on the website … a group with Real Madrid, AC Milan and Manchester City would be possible. I would sign up to that right away,” he said.

Hummels’ belief was also echoed by his team-mate Marcel Schmelzer, who will have no fear no matter what the draw holds.

“We fear no-one,” Schmelzer said. “We especially want to be happy, but we will take what comes.”

The draw for the group stage will take place in Monaco on Thursday.
