Draw was fair, says Hummels

Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels believes his side deserved a point in their draw against Bayern Munich on Saturday.

Mario Goetze’s goal salvaged a point for the champions after Toni Kroos had given the host the lead after 67 minutes at Allianz Arena.

Hummels believes a draw was the fair result in the crucial Bundesliga clash, but said Dortmund were eager to close the 11-point gap to Bayern before the year was out.

“At the end of the day, the draw was the right result. Nothing’s changed in the title race,” he told reporters.

“Leverkusen have made up two points on Bayern, and we’re three behind Leverkusen.

“That’s obviously not great. We want to make up ground before the winter break.”

Roman Weidenfeller believes his side have proven they are a match for the Bavarians, despite the huge gap on the table.

“We’re satisfied with the draw. We need to make up points in our forthcoming matches. The title’s not been decided here today. We showed we can match them,” he said.

“Bayern have a fantastic squad, but we have a good team too.”
