The two Milan clubs were poised to fight each other to the signature of Drogba this summer, after it was thought that the Ivorian’s career at Chelsea is over. Many thought that Drogba’s slap on Vidic would be his last action as a Chelsea player, but now the player insists that his contract is not over yet and he has no intention of moving elsewhere just yet.
“I have a contract with Chelsea until 2010, so I am still a Chelsea player,” Said Drogba to Sky Sports.
“Mourinho is my friend and I am happy for him because he was missing coaching.
“He is a top coach but, like I said, my contract here runs until 2010.”
Despite not having reached his top form in the past campaign, Drogba has made his name as one of the world’s best strikers while at Chelsea. His departure could have been a great loss for the team, but at the same time there were plenty of replacements lined up.
Had Drogba joined either of the Milan teams, a flurry of striker transfer would have been kicked off. Instead the summer is still ridiculously quiet in terms of transfers.
