A back injury could prevent Didier Drogba from playing in Shanghai Shenhua friendly against Manchester United on Wednesday.
The 34-year-old Ivorian has already left his mark on his new club after a fine 45-minute debut where he set up Cao Yunding’s goal in Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Guangzhou R&F.
But Shanghai Shenhua coach Sergio Batista doesn’t want to risk the former Chelsea star’s fitness against the Red Devils, as his side will face league leaders Guangzhou Evergrande next Saturday in a huge clash.
“Right now we can’t say for sure because he has a back problem. We will see tomorrow,” Batista told reporters ahead of the game.
Drogba may not to be the only player to be rested for the game, as Batista admits his main focus is Saturday’s league clash against big-spending Guangzhou.
“Even though it’s just a commercial game we will still prepare for it seriously. But for us, the domestic championship is more important,” he said.
