It's just an easy excuse for journalists who can't be bothered to research it properly. Paul McShane was so incensed about it he jumped at the chance of rejoining. They had lost 4-1 at home in the previous game and were 4-0 down at City at that point. They drew the second half 1-1 and then were very unfortunate indeed to lose to Villa the next game, so you could say it had its desired effect. No, the real reason behind the slump, in my opinion, was that they just weren't very good and were playing above themselves on team spirit and fight. With hindsight, a couple of heavy defeats was always going to erode that. How many more times am I going to have to read this garbage about the Man City half-time team talk?
