Ecuador kept World Cup hopes alive with a 1-2 win over Peru in Sunday’s only South American qualifier.
The team that featured at the 2006 World Cup opened the score through Jefferson Montero in the 37th minute although Juan Vargas equalised seven minutes after the break.
The winning goal came six minutes later though, and was scored by Carlos Tenorio.
Ecuador move into sixth place with the same amount of points as fifth-placed Uruguay, although the latter have a much better goal record. Peru are in tenth and last position.
