French coach Henri Michel has been sacked by Egyptian club Zamalek after a string of defeats, the Cairo-based team revealed on Monday.

The decision to replace the 62-year-old Frenchman with former Egyptian football star Hossam Hassan was taken after Sunday’s 2-0 defeat to league rivals Police Union.

Michel rejoined Zamalek for the second time in his career in March after being let go by South African side Mamelodi Sundowns.

After guiding France to third place at the 1986 World Cup, Michel spent most of his time in Africa, coaching Cameroon, Tunisia, Morocco and Ivory Coast. He also coached clubs including Raja Casablanca of Morocco.
