Enyimba vow fightback against Al Ahly

Nigeria's Enyimba believe they can still qualify for the African Champions League final despite being held to a 0-0 draw at home by Egyptian champions Al Ahly in the first leg of their semi-final.

“We are very prepared. This is a mission possible,” said Enyimba boss Felix Anyansi-Agwu, whose team have won all their home games in this year's Champions League campaign before the draw with the Egyptians.

“We have a chance. We may have been written off but in football there are no guarantees.”

However, the away form of the Nigerian club has come under fire after they lost heavily to TP Mazembe from Democratic Republic of Congo and Cameroon's Coton Sport in the league phase of the competition.

“Every game is different and so will the game in Cairo. This one will be a total battle,” insisted Anyansi-Agwu ahead of Saturday's return.

Coach Okey Emordi, who led the team to the 2004 title after their first triumph the previous year, has also backed the 'People's Elephant' to upstage Ahly in Cairo.

“Ahly got a result in Aba but nothing stops Enyimba from doing likewise in Cairo. It is still very much an open game,” said Emordi.

Both teams clashed in this competition three years ago with Ahly beating Enyimba 1-0 in Aba before winning again 2-1 in Cairo.

Enyimba departed Lagos for Egypt with a full squad that included Stephen Worgu, who is the leading scorer in the competition with 13 goals and a serious target of Ahly for next year.

The winner of this semi-final will clash with the winner of the other semi-final involving Power Dynamos of Zimbabwe and Coton Sport from Cameroon.

The overall winner of the competition will represent Africa at the FIFA World Club Cup later in the year.
