Feyenoord kept the pressure on Eredivisie leaders Ajax with a 1-0 win over VVV Venlo on Friday.
Heading into the clash in fourth place on the table, four points adrift of Ajax and one behind both PSV Eindhoven and Vitesse, Feyenoord jumped to second place with the victory, although the surrounding teams are still to play this weekend.
Feyenoord were forced to dig deep for the win, however, with scores locked at 0-0 heading into the final 20 minutes.
It took a 71st-minute strike from Italian striker Graziano Pelle to break the deadlock, and pull Feyenoord to within a point of leaders Ajax, who are at home to Heracles on Sunday.
Vitesse, meanwhile, take on NAC Breda at home on Saturday, while PSV are away to bottom side Willem II.
