In-demand American striker Jozy Altidore continued his sparkling with form with two goals as AZ Alkmaar stunned Heerenveen 4-0 on Friday.

Altidore – who has been linked with a move away from the Netherlands – started and finished the scoring at Abe Lenstra Stadion, taking his Eredivisie tally to 23 goals, and 30 in all competitions.

The result moved AZ nine points clear of the relegation playoff position following their third win in five games, while seventh-placed Heerenveen suffered their first league defeat on home soil since January.

Altidore put AZ ahead on 29 minutes before Roy Beerens doubled the visitors’ advantage three minutes later.

Gertjan Verbeek’s men opened up a three-goal lead in the second-half courtesy of Altidore, after the USA international turned provider for Johann Berg Gudmundsson in the 62nd minute.

And Altidore added some gloss to the scoreline with his second of the match three minutes later.
