Eredivisie Preview: Guardado set for PSV bow, Ajax eye recovery

In-form PSV will seek revenge against Vitesse on Sunday as they look to maintain their 100 per cent start to the Eredivisie campaign.

Phillip Cocu’s men have been impressive so far this term and made it three wins from three last time out against defending champions Ajax – running out 3-1 victors in the capital.

Cocu’s squad has been bolstered further since then with the loan signing of Mexico international Andres Guardado from Valencia as PSV seek to gain a measure of revenge against a side they were beaten heavily by last term.

Vitesse ran out 6-2 winners at the Philips Stadion in December last year thanks to a dominant second-half showing from the visitors.

With PSV seeking to pull clear from PEC Zwolle at the top, Cocu will hope Guardado can link up with the likes of in-form Memphis Depay and pile further misery on Vitesse – currently second bottom with just one point from three games.

Zwolle – something of a surprise package so far this term – take their impressive defensive record to winless NAC Breda – the hosts having recently been hit for six by PSV.

Groningen and Ajax meet at Euroborg having both been beaten in the league for the first time last week.

While Ajax were humbled by PSV at home, Sunday’s hosts came undone against ADO Den Haag.

Groningen have not beaten the champions since 2011 but will be eager to condemn the visitors to back-to-back defeats while Twente meet Feyenoord in a fixture that often guarantees goals.

Fixtures between the two last season brought about nine in total, with neither side boasting particularly promising starts to the top flight this term.

Rock-bottom Heracles welcome an Excelsior side who have made steady progress back in the top flight while AZ will look to get back on track against Dordrecht.

Having made a winning start under Marco van Basten, AZ have since fallen to defeats to Ajax and Willem II.

Go Ahead Eagles will hope to take advantage of further AZ slip-ups and climb out of the bottom three with a win against Willem at De Adelaarshorst.

Cambuur and Heerenveen have home advantage on Saturday as they host ADO Den Haag and Utrecht respectively.
