NEC Nijmegen came from behind to see off struggling Willem II 3-2 in the Eredivisie on Friday.

Bottom side Willem II have won just twice this season but received an early boost when Robbie Haemhouts put them ahead with a goal in the first minute of the match.

Their luck soon run out though, as a Tim Cornelisse own-goal saw visitors NEC draw level.

Melvin Platje’s brace in a nine-minute spell before half-time saw the away team go in 3-1 ahead at the break.

Aurelien Joachim gave Willem II renewed hope when he got one back just seven minutes into the second half.

But the home side proved unable to find an equaliser in the time remaining, and they remain rooted to the foot of the league standings, nine points adrift of safety.

NEC meanwhile are seventh, on track for a berth in the Europa League qualifying play-off places.
