Ajax Amsterdam have taken top spot in the Eredivisie ahead of PSV Eindhoven with a comfortable 3-0 win over PEC Zwolle.

Kolbeinn Sigthorsson, Siem de Jong and Derk Boerrigter scored the goals for Ajax as they picked up their second win in a row in the Dutch top flight.

PSV had entered the weekend on top of the Eredivisie but after losing 2-1 to Heerenveen on Saturday, the Eindhoven-based club opened the door for Ajax.

Sigthorsson made it 1-0 at the Amsterdam Arena in the 19th minute, finishing off Lasse Schoene’s fine pass from a tight angle.

Just seven minutes later, De Jong doubled the home side’s lead, acrobatically thumping home the rebound after Sigthorsson’s header was saved by Zwolle’s goalkeeper Diederik Boer.

Ajax dominated Sunday’s game with 64 percent possession and 23 shots to two and in the 80th minute, Boerrigter wrapped up the three points for Ajax, tapping home after being set up by Christian Eriksen.

The win takes Ajax to 54 points at the top of the table, one point ahead of PSV and Feyenoord, who won 1-0 away to Roda JC.

Italian striker Graziano Pelle claimed his 19th league goal of the season to defeat Roda JC, rising high to head Ruben Schaken’s cross into the net.

In Enschede, fourth-placed Vitesse Arnhem defeated Twente thanks to a 63rd-minute goal from Wilfried Bony.

The Ivorian striker’s 23rd goal in the Eredivisie this season helped Vitesse to a third straight victory and keeps them three points clear of Utrecht, who also won.

Utrecht knocked off RKC Waalwijk 1-0 but had to wait until the 78th minute when Australian winger Tommy Oar curled his cross onto Jacob Mulenga’s head and the Zambian striker glanced the ball home.
