Eredivisie wrap: PSV, Ajax win comfortably

PSV Eindhoven continue to lead the Eredivisie after thrashing ADO Den Haag 6-1 away from home, while Ajax made it two wins in a row.

Dick Advocaat’s men got off to the perfect start when Luciano Narsingh opened the scoring in the 14th minute.

Dutch international midfielder Kevin Strootman doubled the lead before the half-hour with his fourth goal of the campaign and Dries Mertens made it 3-0 on the stroke of half-time.

PSV, who are unsurprisingly the league’s top scorers by some distance this term, continued to punish their opponents in the second half with Georginio Wijnaldum netting the side’s fourth goal.

The hosts got a consolation goal courtesy of Charlton Vicento after some pressure in the PSV area.

But PSV were not finished scoring as ADO goalkeeper Gino Coutinho could only spill Mark van Bommel’s shot at the feet of Timothy Derijck in the 72nd minute.

Orlando Engelaar completed the rout nine minutes from time.

The result leaves PSV at the top of the league after 13 games – four points clear of FC Twente who play Utrecht on Sunday.

Defending champions Ajax got their season back on track with a 2-0 victory over VVV Venlo.

Second-half goals from Derk Boerrigter and Danny Hoesen proved enough for the home side to secure maximum points as they moved up to fourth.

In other results on Saturday, RKC Waalwijk accounted for Heerenveen 2-0, PEC Zwolle defeated NAC Breda 2-0 in the battle of the relegation candidates, while AZ Alkmaar earned a 1-1 draw at Groningen.
