PSV Eindhoven moved top of the Eredivisie after a comfortable 4-0 win over Heracles on Saturday, while Vitesse stunned Ajax.
Dick Advocaat’s PSV leapfrogged Twente, who face Feyenoord on Sunday, thanks to the straightforward win at Philips Stadion.
Dries Mertens opened the scoring on 19 minutes, finishing powerfully into the top corner after being released down the left.
Luciano Narsingh made Heracles pay for a dreadful turnover in their own half, neatly placing his shot past a helpless Remko Pasveer in the 36th minute.
Narsingh turned provider for the third in the 74th minute, making a direct run before squaring a pass for Kevin Strootman to tap in.
Heracles had Kwame Quansah sent off moments later and PSV added a fourth to wrap up the win nine minutes before full-time.
A wonderful team move led to Narsingh tapping a pass back for Tim Matavz to net from close range.
In Amsterdam, a Wilfried Bony brace helped Vitesse overcome Ajax 2-0 to jump into third.
Bony put the visitors ahead seven minutes before the break with his powerful low drive from just inside the area leaving Kenneth Vermeer helpless.
The Ivorian made it 2-0 less than a minute into the second half, knocking a pass out to Renato Ibarra, who picked him out to head home in the area.
In the day’s other game, Utrecht moved up to fourth thanks to a 5-1 thrashing of struggling Willem II.
Alexander Gerndt and Jacob Mulenga scored braces to go with Cedric van der Gun’s opener, while Australian attacker Tommy Oar had two assists.
