France have moved a large step closer to progressing to the knockout stages at Euro 2012, with a convincing 2-0 win over Ukraine in Donetsk.
Les Bleus were guided by two goals in the space of three second-half minutes to Jeremy Menez and Yohan Cabaye, with striker Karim Benzema providing the assist for both.
Menez turned his opponent inside out, and fired a left-foot shot at the near post of Ukraine custodian Andriy Pyatov on 53 minutes, before Benzema laid off to Cabaye for France’s second moments later.
The match had been halted after just a few minutes due to lightning, but after a 45-minute delay, play continued.
And when it did, France were commanding much to the home fans’ displeasure, with Cabaye also being denied by the woodwork in his attempt at a brace.
