Vedad Ibisevic scored twice in Stuttgart’s 2-0 home win over Dinamo Moscow in their Europa League qualifier.
Stuttgart dominated Wednesday’s first leg with 11 shots to four but had to wait until the first minute of second-half stoppage time for Ibisevic to seal the result.
Dinamo failed to put one of their four shots on target and put in little resistance as Stuttgart built a significant lead heading in to next week’s second leg in Russia.
After a scoreless first half, Stuttgart finally took the lead in the 72nd minute when Tim Hoogland unleashed a powerful shot from outside the area that Dinamo goalkeeper Anton Shunin could not hold on to.
Ibisevic was the first to the rebound and chipped the ball over Shunin and into the net.
In the 91st minute, the Bosnian striker made it 2-0 after a long pass from Stuttgart goalkeeper Sven Ulreich eventually ended with Ibrahima Traore.
The 24-year-old Guinean midfielder completely bluffed his opponent, sending him the wrong way before bursting towards the byline.
Traore crossed to the back post where Ibisevic was unmarked and Stuttgart’s number nine made no mistake with his header.
The winner of Stuttgart and Dinamo Moscow’s two-legged playoff will qualify for the main draw of this season’s Europa League.
