Everton able to spend in January

Roberto Martinez will have money to spend when the transfer window reopens in January, ESPN understands.

The Toffee’s were one on just three Premier League sides to have ended the summer in profit, having sanctioned the deadline day sales of Marouane Fellaini and Victor Anichebe.

They managed to hold on to defender Leighton Baines, and Martinez expects further bids for his star player, while he is aware that he needs to bring in new faces if the club are to maintain their good start to the season.

The Merseyside club are the only side in the English top flight with an unbeaten league record so far this season, with Saturday’s come from behind victory against West Ham United seeing them climb to sixth place.

The club have achieved five top-six finishes in the last ten Premier League seasons, and are priced at 5/2 to achieve that feat this time around.

We (Everton) dont need to do a lot of spending in January regardless. We have a pretty well balanced squad at the moment and we have a bit of depth to it for once.

Our issues are going to come next summer when we dont have additional TV money coming in…like this season…to cover any operating losses and we are going to lose loans of the stature of Lukaku and, maybe, Barry.

Better that any profits we’ve made this summer, and they’ll ‘only’ be single digit millions after agents fee’s etc, get held back to make sure we dont NEED to sell the crown jewels next summer and maybe do something to try and shore up the attack after Lukaku goes.

    Quiet January fine with me.
