Everton approach a ´waste of time´, says Martinez

Wigan boss Roberto Martinez has claimed that any attempt by Everton to contact him over succeeding David Moyes would be a “waste of time”.

Moyes’ appointment at Manchester United is expected to be confirmed before the weekend, and the Merseyside club have subsequently been strongly linked with a move for the Spaniard.

However, with Wigan preparing for an FA Cup final meeting with Manchester City and their Premier League status hanging in the balance, Martinez says he has no time for such distractions.

“At this moment in time it would be a waste of time,” he said.

“The most important thing is to be as ready as we can for Saturday and then the two other finals we have in the league after that.

“It is the peak time for us. We want our fans to be proud of us and that is what we are fighting for. What goes around on the outside doesn’t affect us. We won’t lose any focus.”

Wigan go into Saturday’s FA Cup final as clear underdogs and sit 18th in the English top-flight, three points short of safety.
