Everton close in on Martina

Everton are closing in on the free transfer of Cuco Martina from Southampton, according to the Express.

The Curacao international only signed for the Saints two years ago but has struggled to hold down a first team place and is out of contract this summer.

He could now be set for a reunion with Ronald Koeman – the man who took him to St Mary’s from Twente in July 2015.

The twenty-seven year old has racked up just thirty-six appearances for the south coast club in all competitions, with his one and only goal for the club coming in stunning fashion in a 4-0 win over Arsenal on Boxing Day 2015.

His last league outing came on New Year’s Eve when he played in a 2-1 defeat to West Bromwich Albion.

Koeman is keen to add to his squad as he prepares for a season back in the Europa League, and Martinez has made nine outings in that competition over the past three seasons.
