Everton and Newcastle vying for Doumbia; Benfica to sign Polish starlet

Russian daily newspaper Izvestia is reporting that Everton and Newcastle are among clubs battling for CSKA Moscow striker Seydou Doumbia.

The Russian Premier League top goalscorer is widely tipped to quit CSKA for a big European club in the summer, with Monaco and Galatasaray also keen.

Borussia Dortmund were in the race as well, but their interest has cooled off now that they have secured the signing of Adrian Ramos from Hertha.

Doumbia has a contract until June 2015 and given that he is unlikely to sign a new deal, CSKA will be forced to sell, although their reported €23 million asking price could prove to be a stumbling block.

The Ivorian has been scoring goals for fun throughout his career, having bagged 50 league goals in two seasons at Young Boys before joining CSKA Moscow in 2010.

The Army Men currently trail leaders Lokomotiv by eight points, but they do have a game in hand and are available at 9/1 to lift the trophy.

Benfica to sign Polish starlet

Benfica are set to wrap up the deal for Legia Gdansk midfielder Pawel Dawidowicz, according to Record.

The 18-year-old footballer arrived in Lisbon last night to conduct medical examination, which is enough to suggest the two clubs have already agreed on the transfer fee.

With that in mind, it looks as though Dawidowicz will become club’s first signing of the summer transfer window, although he is likely to be added to the B squad in order to gain some much needed first team experience.

Despite his fragile age, the holding midfielder has already amassed 26 league appearances for Legia, having established himself as a first team regular this season.

He went on to start 24 league fixtures for the club, scoring one goal in the process, while also featuring in 2 Cup games.

Dawidowicz is predicted a bright future in the game and he will have an excellent chance to continue his development at Estadio da Luz.

Emerson leaves Rennes

Brazilian defender Emerson de Conceicao has decided to leave Ligue 1 side Rennes, boss Philippe Montanier has revealed.

The 28-year-old only joined les Bretons in the summer on a one-year deal, but he was allowed to leave a couple of months before his contract was due to expire.

Rennes coach Philippe Montanier has moved to reveal that the defender opted to quit the club for personal reasons.

“He goes back to Brazil to deal with personal issues,” the talented manager explained to L’Equipe. “It’s annoying, but human aspect remains above everything else.”

Emerson had made a name for himself as Lille, where he spent four and a half years having joined from Corinthians in January 2007.

The Brazilian went on to make 84 league appearances for les Dogues before joining Benfica, only to leave the Eagles for Trabzonspor a year later.

Since returning to French Ligue 1, Emerson has amassed 11 league appearances for Rennes, starting 5 of those games.
