Everton should sell Ademola Lookman before it is too late

According to Sky Sports, Everton are demanding a fee in excess of £28million for young winger Ademola Lookman. Sky’s report comes after the Toffees reportedly turned down a £22million bid from RB Leipzig.

The youngster spent the second half of last season on-loan at the German club. Leipzig boss Ralf Rangnick stated earlier in the summer “We want him back and he wants to come.” Everton boss Marco Silva has repeatedly stated that Lookman is part of his long terms plans. However, it seems the Toffees could sell at the right price, as the German transfer window is still open until 31st August.

Has a big reputation but delivered little at Everton

Ademola Lookman earned a reputation as a bright young prospect at Charlton before moving to Merseyside as a teenager for a fee that could rise to £10million. Since his move to Everton, the diminutive England under-21 international has delivered very little.

The only memorable moments that spring to mind from Lookman in a blue shirt are his debut goal against Manchester City and playing a part in a goal in last season’s derby defeat at Liverpool in the FA Cup.

Beyond those moments, he has not produced much of substance, which is why three permanent Everton bosses have overlooked him for regular starts during his time at the club. He looked good in his short spell on loan in Germany. Maybe the Bundesliga is the place where he can develop his game.

Body language and attitude is reportedly poor

Many Evertonian’s want him to stay, as they know that he could potentially be a star of the future. However, reportedly his attitude had been poor in training before the Wolves game, which led to his omission from the squad.

Silva talked about his attitude toward training improving leading up to Saturday’s 2-1 win over Southampton. The winger started the game on the substitute’s bench. However, he failed to get on to the pitch and he looked disinterested in his warm-up.

According to reports, Silva was going to bring Lookman on as a substitute, but his warm-up and attitude failed to impress, so Oumar Niasse came on instead.

After the Southampton game as the likes of Morgan Schneiderlin, Richarlison and Theo Walcott stayed behind to sign autographs for waiting fans, Lookman walked past with his headphones on to his car. This in itself is not a sellable offence, but it is the behaviour of a player who does not want to be part of the club. It is also a way of turning the fans against you.

His attitude compared to new signing Richarlison towards the Everton fans is in stark contrast. The young Brazilian, who is only slightly older than Lookman has not only endeared himself to the fans on the pitch.

The former-Watford man has given away both of his match shirts to fans while being pictured out and about with numerous fans. He is buying into what the club means to the fans.

Lookman seems to have already left Everton

Lookman is obviously upset with how the other Everton bosses have treated him during his short time on Merseysiders. I have no doubt that his agent has probably not been helping his mental state by convincing his client a move is best for him.

Maybe the player is starting to believe the BS with which his agent is filling his head. In truth, he has not achieved anything yet but seems to be acting as if he is a proven Premier League talent. He seems to have already mentally left the club.

Lookman may go on to become a great player in the future. A move to RB Leipzig may be a great move for him, as Everton does not seem to be the right place for him to play his football.

Ralf Rangnick’s side are currently odds of 8/11 to clinch a Champions League spot this season. The signing of a happy Ademola Lookman could well aide their cause.

If Lookman stays at Everton, then he will need to change his attitude significantly if he is to be a success in the Premier League. If he leaves for the mooted fee, then Everton will have nearly tripled their money on a player that may never fulfil his potential.

Will Everton sell Ademola Lookman before the German transfer window shuts?
