Zlatan…What are your expectations about the Euro2008?

Primero estoy muy contento de haber llegado al Europeo con mi selección, después bueno…..esperando porque tenemos 3 partidos difíciles, tenemos que hacer nuestra labor…..jugar bien y estar concentrados…así yo creo que vamos a pasar el grupo….después habrá que ver qué pasa…no es fácil.

First, I am very happy to be able to play in Euro with my national team, and well …looking forward to it because we have three difficult games, we have to work hard…play well and to be concentrated…I believe that we can pass the group like that…we will see what will happen later… this is not easy.

Nuestras cualidades, mmmm….creo que somos un equipo compacto,,,,,trabajamos mucho, somos muy solidarios entre nosotros, hace mucho tiempo que jugamos juntos, éramos jóvenes pero ahora ya tenemos experiencia y hoy lo que queremos es ganar,,,,trabajamos todos para vencer.

Our qualities, mmm…I think that we are a compact team….we are hard workers, united as a team, it has been a long time since we play together. We used to be young but now we have experience and what we want is to win…we all work hard to win.

And weak points?

Ohh…..somos Suecia y en Suecia habitan 9 millones de personas, no podemos esperar tanto de Suecia….no tenemos 22 jugadores fuera de clase….tenemos 22 jugadores normales….después tenemos que esforzarnos y hacer las cosas bien para funcionar como selección……bah….en el fútbol todo puede suceder.

Ohh…We are Sweden and in Sweden there are 9 million people living, we can’t ask too much from Sweden… we don’t have 22 players who are out of class… we have 22 normal players… So we have to make efforts and do things right to function as national team…bah…in football anything can happen.

Who are the favorites to win the title?

Creo que todos los equipos son candidatos,,,,,favoritos creo que Francia, Italia, Holanda…..España…..mmm…hay 5 de 10 escuadras que son favoritas a ganar.

I think that every team is a favorite…But favorites are France, Italy, Holland…Spain…mmm…there are 5 out of 10 that are favorites to win.

Puede haber un ganador impensado como sucedió con Grecia en el 2004?
There can be an unexpected winner like what happened with Greece in 2004?

Todo puede suceder….debe haber respeto por todos los equipos porque la última vez ganó Grecia y nadie lo esperaba. Nunca hay que pensar que hay escuadras muy fáciles y otras muy fuertes….todas son iguales, estoy convencido que debe haber respeto por todos.

Anything can happen…there should be some respect for every team because nobody expected when Greece won the last time. You should never think that there are weak teams and other strong teams…They are all the same, I am pretty sure that there should be a respect for every team.

Por la historia y porque tienen 22 o 24 jugadores de altísimo nivel, que juegan en grandes equipos……ellos juegan para ganar….todos esperan que ganen, por eso son los favoritos

A mi me gustan los equipos que juegan bien y me divierten, como Francia…después Italia y Holanda también me gustan….ehhh….España…..en realidad me gustan los que son favoritos

Qué jugador te parece que puede llegar a destacarse?

Y….en este Europeo creo que todos esperamos que sea Cristiano Ronaldo. Está teniendo un año impresionante, hace cualquier cosa, lo que quiere. Físicamente está muy bien,,,,esperamos que haga un gran Europeo

Y….joven?….Cristiano Ronaldo es muy joven,,,jajajajaj

Si juega sí…….es uno de los más jóvenes, pero hay que ver si juega. No lo vi mucho, pero sentí muchas veces su nombre. Esperemos que juegue, es muy bonito que jueguen jóvenes sin experiencia porque no tienen presión y hacen todo fácil y rápido

De Suecia hay muchos jugadores que me gustan…..tenemos a Kim Kallstrom del Olympique de Lyon que me gusta mucho……también a Christian Wilhelmsson , del Deportivo La Coruña que también me gusta mucho…..también tenemos defensores muy buenos como Mellberg, Majstorovic, el arquero que gusta mucho,,,,Isacsson…..después bueno..tenemos a Ljungberg que está en un equipo muy pequeño pero jugando a un gran nivel…después Elmander, que ha crecido mucho en el último año y ha jugado muy bien en su escuadra y muchos jóvenes muy buenos pero que deben crecer ahora para demostrar después

Hemos jugado contra España en el Grupo de clasificación…..uno lo ganamos y yo no estuve y cundo jugué yo perdimos el juego. Es una escuadra muy buena, todos son jugadores muy fuertes. Tiene jugadores en algunas posiciones que son fuera de clase…..son candidatos a ganar el Europeo. Juegan un fútbol que me gusta mucho. Siempre la pelota la juegan por abajo….siempre los pases llegan a destino perfectamente. Un equipo con técnica y mucha calidad.

We have played with Spain in the group of pre eliminatory…we won one game that I didn’t play and we lost the other one that I played. They are a very good team. All the players are very strong players.

Yo he jugado dos años seguidos contra equipos rusos en la Champions,,,,son jugadores fuertes, físicamente muy fuertes ( – 6.36 hasta 6.47 -interrupción de Javier Zanetti con gritos, luego continúa) y tienen una gran mentalidad…ellos quieren ganar siempre. Tienen un gran entrenador, con mucha experiencia en grandes torneos que siempre sabe qué hacer tácticamente ante cualquier rival, para encontrar la táctica justa.

I have played against Russian teams two years in a row in the Champions League…they are strong players, physically very strong (6.36 to 6.47 there is an interruption by Javier Zanetti shouting) and they have a great mentality…they always want to win. Grecia ganó una vez el Europeo, 4 años atrás…es un buen equipo, creo que son superiores técnicamente a Rusia….son muy compactos y además tienen un entrenador que ha ganado la EURO. Un técnico con mucha experiencia que sabe qué hacer para ganar.

Well…Greece won the Euro one time 4years ago…they are a good team, I think that they are superior to Russia technically…they are very compact and also have a coach that has won the Euro. A coach that knows what to do to win.

Por qué Suecia puede ganar el Europeo?
Why do you think that Sweden can win the Euro?

Porque somos muy compactos….hemos logrado una atmósfera muy buena,,,porque trabajamos mucho para arribar a posiciones buenas, de alto nivel…y tenemos un juego que nos ha permitido jugar cinco competencias importantes en fila….Europeo, Mundial, Europeo, Mundial y ahora otra vez el Europeo…..después porque hemos madurado,,,,,,el equipo ha crecido….los jóvenes han crecido y ahora tienen más experiencia y también porque tenemos ganas de vencer.

Because we are compact…we have got an excellent atmosphere…because we work hard to get to a good position, of high level… y we have a play style that allows us to have played 5 important competitions in a row…and then because we have matured… the team itself has grown…the young players have grown and now we have more experience and also we have a lot of desire to win.
