The Football Association have warned Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew following a touchline bust-up with Manuel Pellegrini.

Pardew was incensed when Cheick Tiote’s long-distance effort was controversially ruled out during the 2-0 defeat to Manchester City, a goal that would have made the score 1-1.

Referee Mike Jones believed Yoan Gouffran had made contact with the ball while in an offside position.

That led to Pardew becoming involved in a verbal altercation with City manager Pellegrini.

The 52-year-old subsequently apologised to his counterpart, and the Chilean himself played down the incident, but the FA have warned Pardew over his future conduct.

An FA spokesman confirmed: “We have been in contact with Alan Pardew and reminded him of his responsibilities.”

Jones will not officiate a Premier League fixture in next weekend’s round of matches but, when contacted by Perform, the FA refused to confirm whether this was due to the decision to rule out Tiote’s goal.
