Fabio Coentrao agrees Portugal return

Portuguese daily newspaper Record claims that Real Madrid full-back Fabio Coentrao will soon return to Portuguese Primeira Liga.

The highly rated footballer has been wanting to leave los Blancos in an attempt to get his career back on track and he hinted earlier that moving back to Portugal was a tempting scenario.

According to Record, Sporting CP are close to agreeing a season-long loan for Coentrao, while the amount of a purchase option has yet to be defined.

The 29-year-old has utterly failed to justify a €30 million transfer fee after arriving from Benfica, and chances are Real Madrid will have to cut their losses and insert a realistic buy-out clause in the deal.

Plagued by numerous injuries, Coentrao only managed 58 La Liga appearances during the five years at Santiago Bernabeu, although he did enjoy a fairly successful year-long spell with Monaco.
