Fabio Coentrao linked with Portugal return

Portuguese media outlet A Bola is reporting that Sporting CP have been showing interest in Real Madrid defender Fabio Coentrao.

The Lions head coach Jorge Jesus worked with the full-back at Benfica and he now hopes to lure him to Estadio Jose Alvalade.

That could prove a difficult task considering that Coentrao pledged his allegiance to the Eagles a while back, but he did admit a return to Portugal could be on the cards.

Namely, having largely struggled for playing time at Santiago Bernabeu, the 29-year-old is looking to leave the club at the end of the season despite the fact that he’s got another two years left on his current deal.

Coentrao is eager to rediscover the form that saw him become one of Europe’s leading left-backs and he will probably choose a side that give him the best possible chance of playing on regular basis.
