Fabregas future uncertain

The future of Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas has been thrown into doubt amid widespread reports of a bid from Manchester United.

The Spaniard has recently been linked with a departure from the Camp Nou, just two seasons after returning to his boyhood club following an eight-year spell in the Premier League with Arsenal.

And with Manchester United in the market for a midfielder following the retirement of Paul Scholes, David Moyes is believed to have lodged a €30 million offer for the 26-year-old.

United had been strongly linked with a move for Fabregas’ Barca team-mate Thiago Alcantara before the Spain international opted to join former boss Pep Guardiola at Bayern Munich.

But, when asked about Alcantara’s move to the Bundesliga, Moyes replied: “I never said at any time he was (a target). There are people we are actively chasing and we are happy with the way things are going.”

Fabregas has struggled to find his best form since returning to Catalonia, and has often been deployed in an unfamiliar forward role having failed to oust Xavi and Iniesta in midfield.

However, he last month denied suggestions that he is ready to leave Barcelona as a result, saying: “I’ve always said that I’m happy at Barca. Whoever says that I’m leaving doesn’t know me and has never spoken with me.”

Fabregas’ return to the Catalan club was facilitated by his impressive performances at Arsenal, for whom he scored 57 goals in 100 appearances.
