Cesc Fabregas has quashed rumours that he will be leaving Barcelona for the Premier League after being linked with Manchester United.

The 26-year-old has been a regular for Barcelona this season, making 47 appearances in all competitions and boasting a 14-goal return bettered only by Lionel Messi.

Fabregas came up through the youth ranks at the Catalan giants but left the club aged 16 to join Arsenal. After eight years in London he finally returned to Barcelona in 2011 and signed a five-year contract.

Reports had linked him with a return to England, with champions Manchester United named as potential suitors.

But Fabregas revealed that he has no intention to leave and will continue to fight for his place in the face of stiff competition from Xavi, Andres Iniesta, Sergio Busquets and Alex Song.
“I have not opened my mouth once,” he told Spanish newspaper Marca. “It has taken a lot for me to get where I am and I am not thinking about throwing it all away for nothing.

“If they (Barcelona) said that they didn’t want me that would be another thing, what I really want is to triumph at Barca, that has been dream since I was small.

“The important thing in life is to accept the good and also bad moments when they happen.

“If they (the crowd) whistle me I have to accept it. I am the first person that knew it would be the biggest challenge of my life (to play at Barcelona). I only want to play.

“Barca is my home, I have always dreamed of triumphing here.

“Up until now everything has gone well. The important thing is to work and work so that you enjoy it more than you don’t.”
