FC Twente successfully defended their lead in the Dutch Eredivisie with a 1-3 victory at Willem II on Saturday.

Wout Brama scored the opening goal after just eight minutes, but Twente’s lead would not stand long as Willem II were handed a penalty in minute 16. Christophe Gregoire was focused and converted the spot kick.

But Miroslav Stoch then made it 1-2 in the 35th minute, and Costa Rican Bryan Ruiz, second on the Eredivisie top-scorers list, added another goal to his personal tally in minute 69.

As a result of this win, Twente move back into first place at the expense of PSV Eindhoven.

AZ Alkmaar jumped to fifth place thanks to a 2-0 win over VVV Venlo. Jeremain Lens opened the scoring on 21 minutes, for Brett Holman to double the reigning champions’ lead in the second minute after the break.
