Despite intense speculation suggesting otherwise, Fenerbahce insist they have not signed Montpellier midfielder Younes Belhanda.
The 22-year-old Moroccan has been a first-team regular at Montpellier for the last four years and was a key player in the club’s Ligue 1 title winning season last term, netting 12 goals.
Belhanda has already scored six times this campaign but Montpellier are struggling, sitting 11th on the table, already 12 points adrift of table-toppers PSG.
Numerous reports earlier this week suggested Belhanda was en route to Istanbul to sign a deal with the Turkish giants but Fenerbahce issued a statement to dispel the rumours.
“There is no truth in the reports suggesting that we have agreed terms with Montpellier over the transfer of Younes Belhanda,” the statement read.
“We are working on our transfer strategy with head coach Aykut Kocaman’s wishes in mind, but have not completed any deal yet.”
Belhanda – who has also been linked to Tottenham recently – has a contract at Montpellier until the end of the 2013-14 season.
