England defender Rio Ferdinand will miss Wednesday’s home World Cup qualifier with Andorra as he is suffering from the calf injury which forced him out of Saturday’s 4-0 romp away to Kazakhstan, media reports said Sunday.
The Manchester United star has been struggling for fitness since before last month’s Champions League final loss to Barcelona and now the 30-year-old will concentrate on getting ready for next season.
A win against Andorra will all but take England through to the finals after they made it six Group Six wins in as many matches against the Kazakhs.
Coach Fabio Capello has opted not to bring in a replacement, and has just 21 players to choose from.
Midfielder Gareth Barry is out of the Andorra game with suspension after his yellow card in Almaty.
