Fergie blames agent for the Rooney saga; Sir Trevor Brooking wants an English coach to replace Capello

Fergie blames agent for the Rooney saga

Sir Alex Ferguson somehow managed to convince Wayne Rooney to sign a new long-term deal, but the boss believes it was the player’s agent who had caused all the commotion in the first place.

Ferguson, whose own son Jason used to be an agent, agrees that agents are one of the biggest problems in football today.

“It is always tough at United. There are always issues to deal with.

“When your top players come towards the end of their contracts you have to do something to get them a new one. They are all the same.

“You have to deal with agents of this world today which is difficult. The players are no problem. There is no problem with players. Some agents are difficult.”

Fergie definitely has a point here, but the most important thing is that he persuaded Rooney to stay even tough at some point it looked as though the player would never feature for Manchester United again.

Harry Redknapp rules out a move for Aston Villa star

Harry Redknapp has rejected rumours linking him with a move for Ashley Young after Gerard Houllier suggested Spurs were tapping up the player.

The Tottenham boss joked when he was accused by Gerard Houllier for tapping up Ashley Young.

“I’ve been round his house a couple of times, we’ve done the deal. He (Houllier) never said tapping up, did he? We’ve never made an enquiry for him, no, never. There’s nothing there.”

“I’m strong in those positions. I have Aaron Lennon, Gareth Bale, Nico Kranjcar on the left. I can’t get Nico Kranjcar on and he is a fantastic player.

“It’s hard enough as it is when you have a good squad because it’s a juggling act all the time. What am I going to do with another left-winger, give myself another ¬headache?”

After Harry Redknapp denied interest in the Villa winger, it is almost certain that Ashley Young will sign a new deal, although I wouldn’t be surprised if he do leave the club at the end of the season, as there are still quite a few potential suitors left even with Tottenham out of the picture.

Sir Trevor Brooking lines up an Englishman to replace Capello

England FA’s head of football development, Sir Trevor Brooking, says the national team chiefs want an Englishman to replace Fabio Capello.

To the delight of all England fans, Sir Trevor Brooking has ruled out Steve McClaren from the national team post.

“Steve had a really difficult time and in years to come might be looked on as the ideal age to do the job again.

“But 2012 would be too early for him to come back. He himself wants to get more experience.”

However, he admitted an English coach is likely to succeed Fabio Capello.

“Ideally we would still want an English coach, but it’s all about availability.

“There is an argument that says if we can’t appoint an English coach for our national team, why would big clubs appoint English coaches?

“Longer-term, we’d like to take the lead and appoint English coaches – not just once but on a regular basis.”

Sir Trevor Brooking definitely has a point here, although I don’t see too many English coaches capable of leading the Three Lions, at least for the time being.
