Fergie decides on Van der Sar replacement; Juventus chief hints at new signings

Fergie decides on Van der Sar replacement

Sir Alex Ferguson has decided that Atletico Madrid keeper David De Gea is the man to replace Edwin van der Sar, according to Daily Mail.

With the Dutch keeper unwilling to reconsider his pending retirement, Sir Alex Ferguson and goalkeeping coach Eric Steele have been very active in searching for his replacement, but it appears the search is finally over.

Maarten Stekelenburg, Hugo Lloris and Manuel Neuer have all been linked with a move to Old Trafford, but after careful consideration, the Scottish boss decided to go with David De Gea.

Manchester United are expected to send a formal offer thought to be around £15 million for the 20-year-old keeper, with Eric Steele already taking Spanish lessons to make the transition period easier for the young keeper.

De Gea’s impressive showings for Atletico Madrid have earned him a long list of suitors, as well as call-up to the national team and it looks as though he is now set for a dream move to Old Trafford.

After seeing his side struggle in some derby games this season, Sir Alex has set his sights on reinforcing the squad in the summer and David De Gea is just one of the players expected to arrive to Old Trafford.

The Spaniard is by all means a very promising keeper and has been in great form throughout the season, but it remains to be seen whether he can cope with the pressure of playing for a club like Manchester United.

Juventus chief hints at new signings

Juventus general manager Giuseppe Marotta believes the club need to sign at least four experienced players in order to return to the right track.

Despite the promising start of the season, Juventus have started to struggle of late and they are slowly losing the race for the Champions League places.

The Old Lady signed quite a few players last summer before adding few more footballers this January, but Marotta feels that is not enough.

“Juventus need at least another four great players. Above all, people of experience who know how to better manage the most difficult situations.”

Some of the players being mentioned as possible targets are Michel Bastos, Andrea Pirlo, Javier Mascherano and Marco Borriello, but it remains to be seen whether Juventus will have enough money to fund these transfers.

The Bianconeri will also try to make loan deals of Alberto Aquilani and Fabio Quagliarella permanent and everything suggests they will have to sell few fringe footballers before going on a shopping spree.

Real looking to keep hold of youngster with Arsenal interested

Real Madrid are hoping to persuade highly rated youngster Pedro Sarabia into signing a new deal at Santiago Bernabeu in the midst of Arsenal interest.

The 18-year-old midfielder is seen as one of the hottest prospects at the club and he was already given a first team debut this season, having featured against Auxerre.

However, Arsenal have also been alerted of the youngster’s potential by scout Francis Cagigao and the Gunners could try to snatch Sarabia away from Real.

The player’s agent, Gines Carvajal admits his client is tracked by a number of clubs.

“Some clubs are looking at Sarabia and Real knows this,” Carvajal said.

“The boy wants to triumph in Real and I will have a meeting with the club’s directors at the end of the season.”

For the time being, it looks as though the player is willing to remain at Santiago Bernabeu, but should Arsenal step up their interest that could easily change.
