Ferguson backs Ferdinand

Sir Alex Ferguson keeps on defending Rio Ferdinand. The Manchester United defender is experiencing a difficult period in his career. British media reported that Ferdinand will be placed on the transfer list this winter. Ferguson denies this stories and continues to support his centre half.

The Scottish manager believes Ferdinand will return to his good form. “In my time here we’ve always had a situation where one of the star players had troubles with his form and he’s going to get criticism,” said Fergie.

“That’s all part of being a player at Manchester United and I think we’re all aware of that.

“With Rio, it’s quite simple. No player likes to be criticised. They liked to be loved and have arms around their shoulders at times, but he’ll come out of it, no question about that.”

Ferdinand had a tough start of the season and already made some bad mistakes. He was responsible for Craig Bellamy’s late equalizer in the derby match against Manchester City and he couldn’t stop Fernando Torres at Anfield.

He’s currently sidelined with an knee injury and won’t be able to play against CSKA Moscow tonight. It’s not sure if Ferdinand recovers on time to face Chelsea, this Sunday.
