Sir Alex Ferguson has been a long time admirer of Michael Owen and he could seize the opportunity to pick up this once prolific goal scorer for a mere ₤5 million.
According to reports emanating from Newcastle United they could be preparing to let the striker go a year before his contract is due to expire. The club are keen to slash his current weekly wage of ₤110 000 to ₤80 000. It is understood that if Owen does not agree to the new term he would be allowed to go.
Michael Owen has yet to recapture the form that made him the most lethal striker in England when he made his mark at Anfield with Liverpool. It was only towards the end of last season when he showed glimpses of his former self by netting more regularly for the Magpies.
It has been well documented that Manchester United are looking to bolster their attack and Owen could be the player to do just that.
