AZ Alkmaar failed to score a deciding goal in the match with Feyenoord this Sunday, allowing FC Twente to reduce the gap to nine points with six matches to go.
While AZ and Feyenoord played out a goalless draw, Twente earned a crucial win in their hunt for a Champions League spot. Against FC Groningen, Eljero Elia scored the opener on 34 minutes and Peter Wisgerhof doubled the lead in the 72nd.
Groningen who had Granqvist sent off after only 12 minutes, did score back through Marcus Berg just before full time.
Ajax, currently trailing AZ by 12 points, earned a rather easy 0-3 win at NAC. Thomas Vermaelen, Gregory van der Wiel and Luis Suarez scored for the Amsterdam outfit.
