The extraordinary FIFA Executive Committee is to meet on July 20 to set a date for the extraordinary elective Congress that will determine the successor to departing president Sepp Blatter.

Blatter won a fifth term as president when he saw off the challenge of sole rival Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein in last month’s elections.

However, the 79-year-old subsequently announced that he would be resigning amid a scandal that has engulfed FIFA in which 14 people – including nine past and present FIFA officials – were indicted by the United States Department of Justice on charges of racketeering conspiracy and corruption.

Blatter, who is to remain in charge until the Congress, vowed to lead a “comprehensive programme of reform” during the remainder of his tenure.

December 16 has been the reported date for the Congress.
