FIFA will investigate claims by former Southampton captain Claus Lundekvam that he was part of a Premier League spot-fixing scam.
The ex-Norway international admitted on Wednesday that he and skippers from opposing sides supposedly colluded before the match to decide on who would win the first throw-in or corner in a spot-fixing scandal which lasted for years.
World football’s governing body has now revealed that it will assign its chief investigator in England to the case.
“FIFA is monitoring this issue and involved its chief investigator in England. Once all information is known it will be decided who is leading the investigation,” an official statement said.
Lundekvam joined Southampton from Brann in September 1996 and retired from football in May 2008 after making more than 300 appearances for the Saints.
