Libya maintained their place at the top of CAF Group I in qualifying for the FIFA World Cup with a comfortable 2-0 win over Togo on Friday.

The win puts Abdulhafeedh Arbeesh’s side three points clear of nearest challengers Cameroon, who take on Congo DR on Sunday.

Fortune certainly favoured the hosts, but they were always in command against Didier Six’s men, who were without Alaixys Romao and Jonathan Ayite after the pair refused to travel because of security concerns.
The match, originally scheduled to take place in trouble-hit Benghazi, was moved to Libyan capital Tripoli, amid protests to see it moved to an entirely neutral venue from sections of the Togo squad.
Striker Emmanuel Adebayor and goalkeeper Kossi Agassa were also absent after they opted not to play in the 2-0 defeat to Cameroon last Sunday.
Faisal Saleh gave Libya the lead from the penalty spot after seven minutes, before the advantage was doubled 11 minutes later when midfielder Komlan Amewou put through his own net.
Togo’s attempts to mount a comeback failed, meaning that they will not able to progress to the final round of qualifying.
