Figueroa to Wigan; Panayiotou joins Port Vale on loan from Leicester

Hull City defender Maynor Figueroa has returned to Wigan Athletic on a one-month loan deal.

Hull City defender Maynor Figueroa has returned to Wigan Athletic on a one-month loan deal.

The Honduras international, 31, was a regular starter for Hull last season but has since lost his first-team place to Andrew Robertson, who joined the Tigers from Dundee United for £2.85 million in the summer.

Robertson, 20, has been outstanding for Steve Bruce’s side this season, earning an average match rating of 7.14 in his first eight appearances in the English Premier League, per WhoScored.com.

In fact, the Scotland international has been so impressive that reports are linking him with a shock £10 million  move to Arsenal.

Robertson’s purple patch has gifted Championship side Wigan a versatile defender who can play both centre-back–in a back four or a back five–or left-back.

“Maynor is a very experienced player,” Wigan boss Uwe Rosler told Wigan’s official website.

“He knows and understands the club well and his presence gives us a real shot in the arm.”

Panayiotou joins Port Vale on loan from Leicester

League One outfit Port Vale have completing the signing of Harry Panayiotou from Leicester City on a one-month youth loan deal.

Panayiotou, 19, scored a last-minute winner against Leeds United on his senior debut in April 2012, but has been held out of the Foxes first-team for over two years.

As a member of the reserves, the Saint Kitts and Nevis international forward bagged a brace in a 5-0 win against Vale in January, so the Valiants are all-too-familiar with him.

Vale caretaker manager Rob Page is looking forward to working with the 19-year-old attacker, who can play on either wing or up front.

“Young Harry is going to come into the squad,” said Vale caretaker manager Rob Page.

“We only bring players in who we think are going to add that little bit of quality and something different.

“He’s a young lad, I spoke to [Leicester coach] Kevin Phillips about him and whenever he trains with the first team he has got an eye for goal.

“He’s got a great work ethic, he’s not a minute’s problem so we just think it’s an opportunity to bring him in and get him amongst the squad.”

Poldi laughs off Spurs link

In other news, Arsenal forward Lukas Podolski has rubbished rumours suggesting he could be on his way to Tottenham Hotspur when the transfer window re-opens in January.

Posting a link to a story linking him with a £10 million move to White Hart Lane in the winter transfer window, Podolski tweeted: “Hell will freeze over before this transfer would happen. #Poldi #aha #AlwaysAGunner #NeverCheatYourClub #AFC #Redarmy.”

Now that is club loyalty.
