Former Basel coach Thorsten Fink says Xherdan Shaqiri would be ideally suited to Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.
Fink, now in charge of Hamburg, spent six years with Bayern as a player between 1997 and 2003.
He believes Switzerland international Shaqiri, whom he coached for two years at Basel, would thrive at the Allianz Arena.
“Xherdan is a great young player who has excellent dribbling skills,” Fink told Sport1.
“He was already at the World Cup at the age of 17. He could become a real crowd favourite if he joins Bayern. Just his physical presence would do the trick.”
“He’s quite small, like Bixente Lizarazu, and looks like a Ninja Turtle. He’s a great guy, who’s very out going.”
Shaqiri was courted by Turkish side Galatasaray throughout January, but the two clubs were unable to agree a fee, despite the player confirming his interest in a move to the Super Lig.
Bayern will witness the attacking midfielder’s abilities first hand on February 22, when they travel to meet Basel in the Champions League round-of-16 first leg.
