Fiorentina agree deal for Mexes

Italian Serie A leaders Fiorentina are reportedly set to recruit French defender Philippe Mexes from AC Milan, according to daily newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Viola have largely impressed under new coach Paulo Sousa, having climbed to the top of the league standings after the weekend’s 4-1 win over Inter Milan.

But, the Portuguese coach is clearly not entirely satisfied with his defensive department as he has instructed the club officials to try and lure Philippe Mexes to Artemio Franchi in the January window.

And the latest reports suggest the two clubs have already reached an agreement over a winter transfer, which is hardly surprising considering that the player’s contract is due to expire at the end of the season.

Mexes, 33, has failed to make a single appearance for AC Milan this season and he obviously jumped at the opportunity to move clubs and sign for the Serie A high flyers.
