Fiorentina complete Ambrosini signing

Fiorentina have completed the signing of veteran midfielder Massimo Ambrosini on a one-year deal.

Ambrosini was released by Milan at the end of last season after 18 years at San Siro, which saw him win four Serie A titles, as well as two UEFA Champions League winner’s medals.

West Ham had been linked with a move to bring the 35-time Italy international to the Premier League, but he has opted to remain in his native country.

Fiorentina agonisingly missed out on a place in the Champions League on the final day of last term as Milan pipped them to third place in Serie A with a last-gasp 2-1 win over Siena, a game in which Ambrosini was dismissed with his side trailing 1-0 at the time.

Ambrosini made 24 appearances in all competitions for Massimiliano Allegri’s side in 2012-13, but has scored just two goals in the last three seasons.

The 36-year-old is the Florence club’s seventh signing of the off-season.

Attacking midfield options Joaquin, Marko Babic and Oleksandr Yakovenko have been acquired from Malaga, Torino and Anderlecht respectively, while goalkeeper Gustavo Munua has arrived from Levante and full-backs Juan Cuadrado and Marcos Alonso have signed permanently from Udinese and Bolton.
