Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport has learned that Fiorentina have decided against signing a new forward as a cover for Mario Gomez.
Viola boss Vincenzo Montella found himself in problems after star striker Mario Gomez suffered a knee injury that will see him miss between six and seven weeks of action.
As a result, club officials turned their attention towards the free agents market, pondering moves for Tommaso Rocchi and Ciprian Marica, but ultimately decided not to sign a new striker.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Fiorentina are happy with their current attacking options that include Giuseppe Rossi, Josip Ilicic, Joaquin and Ante Rebic.
Mario Gomez was extremely unlucky to pick up an injury after opening his account at Artemio Franchi, having scored a brace in the 5-2 victory over Genoa.
He is now expected to miss almost two months of action, which could seriously hurt club’s top 3 bid in Serie A.
