Tottenham winger Aaron Lennon completed a surprise loan move to Everton on loan

Tottenham winger Aaron Lennon completed a surprise loan move to Everton on deadline day

As we all know yesterday was transfer deadline day and it was a relatively quiet day for a lot of Premier League clubs.

Chelsea was involved at the top end of the market with Colombian winger Juan Cuadrado joining from Fiorentina for a fee in the region of £26.1million.

Heading in the opposite direction was Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah, who joined the Viola on an 18 month loan deal.

Also exiting Stamford Bridge was Germany international Andre Schurrle who joined German side Wolfsburg for a fee of around £24million.

The Blues are now odds of 2/9 to claim the Premier League title. The signing of Cuadrado certainly strengthens that title bid.

Interesting

Those were the big money deals of deadline day in the Premier League, but here are some of the other interesting deals:

Aaron Lennon (Tottenham to Everton, loan)

Tottenham winger Lennon had made just three starts in the Premier League and looked in need of a move to re-ignite his career. At 27 years old Lennon’s once promising career has stalled, but this could be a great move for the England international.

Lennon was interesting Leicester, Hull and Stoke, but once Everton showed an interest he was only ever going to be heading to Merseyside. For Lennon it is a fresh start and with something to prove a chance for him to play first team football.

The former-Leeds star is noted for his trickery and pace and maybe he can add fresh impetus to the Everton attack. The Toffees have an option to purchase Lennon in the summer and this could prove to be one of the shrewdest signings of deadline day.

Darren Fletcher (Manchester United to West Brom, free)

The Scotland captain had made over three hundred appearances for the Red Devils and won everything there was to win at Old Trafford. The 31-year-old had struggled with illness in recent years, but could offer the Baggies invaluable experience in midfield.

To sign the experience Scot could be something of a coup for Baggies boss Tony Pulis, who also saw a deal for West Ham striker Carlton Cole collapsed towards the end of the window. Fletcher came close to agreeing a move to West Ham, but the Irons wanted to sign him on-loan, which the Red Devils were not interested in.

Wilfried Zaha (Manchester United to Crystal Palace, initial fee of £3million plus add-ons)

Another player leaving United on a permanent basis on deadline day was 22-year-old England international Wilfried Zaha. The winger had been on-loan at boyhood club Palace, after struggling to command a first team place at United.

Zaha made just two substitute appearances in the Premier League for United, after joining the Red Devils in January 2013 for an initial fee of £10million, potentially rising to £15million. However, his two top-flight appearances cost United a cool £5million apiece, as he failed to make the grade at United.

Zaha was loaned back to former-club Palace last summer and has looked far more at home back in London. The youngster does have a lot of potential, but to have any chance of fulfilling that promise he needs to be playing games.

At £3million Zaha could prove to be a very good signing, especially if he can rediscover the form that he produced during his first permanent spell at the club.

Dele Alli (MK Dons to Tottenham, £5million)

Tottenham completed the £5million transfer of highly-rated 18-year-old MK Dons midfielder Dele Alli. The youngster is the top scoring midfielder in the top four divisions of English football and is regarded as one of the most promising youngsters in the football league.

The youngster has been immediately loaned back to the Dons until the end of the season. Alli has represented England at under-17, 18 and 19 levels and was reportedly being scouted by the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United.

Alli is definitely one for the future and Spurs picking him up for £5million could prove to be another great piece of transfer business by Spurs savvy chairman Daniel Levy.

Ryan Bertrand (Chelsea to Southampton, £10million)

Bertrand has completed a permanent move to the Saints, after spending the first half of the season on-loan at St Marys. Bertrand has turned out to be a fantastic replacement for England international Luke Shaw, who departed for Manchester United in the summer.

The 25-year-old has been superb in a Southampton defence that has the best defensive record in the English top-flight this season. Both defensive and going forward Bertrand has been impressive this season.

Bertrand was always going to struggle for first team football at Stamford Bridge with Cesar Azpilicueta and Felipe Luis already at the club. The permanent move to the south coast could be a good one with the Saints challenging for a top four place this season.

Who will prove to be the best Premier League deadline day signing?
