Forlan: We beat a direct rival for a CL spot

Los Colchoneros’ overnight heroes were delighted with the way they plotted the Yellow Submarine’s downfall (3-2). Diego Forlan highlighted the importance of the victory, while he also sung the praises of his counterpart in the Villarreal goal.

“We beat a direct rival for a Champions League spot,” he affirmed. “We deserved the victory even when we were losing 2-0. They played well and Diego Lopez did very well for his team but we always had confidence in our chances. Football is like that and everyone has to fulfil their function.”

The win moves Atleti up to fifth place in the table, just two points behind Villarreal, who currently occupy the final Champions League-qualifying berth.
